The increasing cost of a pint was alluded to during the January meeting of Roscommon County Council.

During the presentation on the City of Athlone project, Cllr Tom Crosby welcomed Ballymore CEO Sean Mulryan and his team to the council chamber.

Cllr Tom Crosby said as a young man of 18, he ran a small pub in Castlerea in the mid ‘70s.

“I remember you frequenting it along with Mick and Tom Bailey back then,” the independent councillor said to Mr Mulryan. “A pint of Guinness back then was only 18 pence. You got five pints in my place for a pound, and you had change for ten cigarettes. That’s going back a while.”
