The Slovenian ambassador could be invited to a Roscommon County Council civic reception.
At the January meeting of the local authority where the Athlone Green City project was discussed, Cllr Tom Crosby said that the county is twinned with Slovenia for Ireland’s forthcoming Presidency of the EU.
“Their capital city, Ljubljana, has been awarded the green capital of Europe, so I think the timing is perfect,” he said.
He proposed that the twinning should be progressed now.
“They are big into tourism and an ideal fit for us,” the independent councillor said.
He suggested that Slovenia’s ambassador should be invited to a civic reception in the county.
“We should bring them around our beautiful county and show what’s on offer,” he said.
