Recruitment drive launched by Brothers of Charity Services

Sínead Hurley, who graduated from Limerick Institute of Technology in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Care, has been working with Clarin Services (West Region) since 2019.

A recruitment drive is underway by the Brothers of Charity Services as the group supports people to lead full, valued and independent lives.

Brothers of Charity Services provide supports to over 7,000 people with an intellectual disability or autism, operating in almost 1,000 locations throughout Ireland, including Roscommon and Galway.

Staff are recruited from a wide variety of backgrounds including social care, psychology, speech and language therapy, social work, physiotherapy and nursing.

Sínead Hurley, who graduated from Limerick Institute of Technology in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in social care, has been working with Clarin Services (West Region) since 2019.

“I started working with BOCSI as a locum support worker before becoming a social care worker in 2021,” says Sínead.

She always knew she wanted to work in a role that involved caring for people. “I am a social person. My sister also has Down syndrome, so I spent a lot of my childhood supporting her. It was a natural progression for me.” She explained that her day-to-day role as a social care worker was “unpredictable, in the best way possible. There are some daily routines that don’t change, such as assisting with personal care needs. But outside of this, the people I support decide what they want to do for their day.”

Sínead says she feels lucky to work with an incredible team. “There is a sense of community among the staff and the people we support. The core value of the Brothers of Charity Services is the dignity and humanity of each person.”
