Preparations are underway to transfer books, furniture, and equipment from King House to the temporary library at the courthouse.

Required works at the former courthouse in Boyle to accommodate a temporary library have just been completed.

A spokesperson for the county library services confirmed that the works, which took place over the last two months, were now finished.

“Preparations are underway to transfer books, furniture, and equipment from King House to the temporary library at the courthouse. To assist with the transfer of these items and with the fit out of the space, mobile library services in Boyle are suspended,” said the spokesperson.

An accessible entrance will be available at the temporary library in the historic courthouse, with an opening date to be announced shortly.

Boyle Courthouse will be used as the town's public library while ongoing remediation works at King House are continuing.

This major visitor attraction and the adjacent library nearby were severely affected by a major oil spill in November caused by criminal damage. The library has been closed since the incident.

Roscommon County Council identified the former courthouse building as a suitable temporary premises to ensure continuity of library services while intensive remediation works continue at King House.
