There are serious concerns regarding road safety in the Cam area, a meeting of the Athlone Municipal District has heard.

Cllr Tony Ward told the meeting there are concerns over works on a risen road in the area.

“Work needs to be done in relation to road markings and to remove a dangerous bend there.

“The speed of traffic on that road is unreal,” he said.

Susan Loughnane, the meetings administrator, said the roads programme was submitted the week of the municipal district meeting to the Department of Transport for approval and tenders would be going out.

“That generally starts after St. Patrick’s Day, depending on weather as well and most of that work is surfacing and signage.

“It will be done and prioritised as part of the roads programme.”

However, she said that steps would have to be taken about funding.

Cllr Ward agreed that was good news.
