Roscommon County Council has purchased 40 houses currently under construction at Tarmon Manor in Castlerea.
A €13.5m deal to purchase 40 houses in Castlerea has been agreed by Roscommon County Council in a move aimed at boosting its social housing stock.
As previously reported by the Herald, the housing development comprises a mix of houses, which are currently under construction at the Tarmon Manor estate in the town.
A council spokesperson confirmed that the total budget allocation for the housing amounted to €13,565,476, with contracts signed between the local authority and the contractor on March 12th, 2026.
Approval for the acquisition was granted by the Department of Housing in June of last year.
The council is currently engaging with the Department of Housing regarding a potential “mixed tenure approach” for these homes.
“At present, the houses have not been designated to specific households. Allocations will be carried out in accordance with Roscommon County Council’s Scheme of Letting Priorities, which applies to all social housing allocations,” the spokesperson explained.
Currently, there are 356 households on the housing waiting list in County Roscommon.
