Roscommon film editor's documentary to air tonight
Boyle woman and film editor, Grainne Creighton
A Roscommon woman was crucially involved in the production of a powerful new documentary which will be aired tonight on RTÉ.
Boyle native and London based film editor Grainne Creighton’s first sole edited documentary, “Anorexia, My Family and Me” , is a powerful documentary, narrated by Angela Scanlon, who herself has overcome the challenges of an eating disorder. It follows the stories of three families who are all struggling with anorexia.
Eating disorders are on the rise in Ireland, with an estimated 188,895 Irish people experiencing an eating disorder at some point in their lives, and over 85% of them finding it hard to access treatment. On average, 1,800 new cases of eating disorders are diagnosed nationwide annually, according to BodyWhys, the national voluntary organisation supporting people affected by eating disorders.
Ms Creighton is a professional video editor with over ten years experience. With a fine art background, she started making short films while studying a Masters in Film Editing in Goldsmiths University London. Since then, she has worked on a large variety of projects, including commercial, short film and documentary.
She edited the documentary, ‘Patrick: A Young Traveller Lost’, which explored the issue of suicide rates among the Irish Traveller community.
She also edited the documentary “Sean”, about the legendary GAA manager Sean Boylan, which was also broadcast on RTÉ One.
Ms Creighton is the daughter of Eddie and Sylvia who run Creightons pub in Boyle.
Watch Anorexia, My Family and Me on Monday October 14 at 9:35pm on RTÉ One.
