A County Roscommon GAA Club has congratulated one of its former members on winning a Local Club Hero award with Ulster Rugby.

St. Barry’s GAA Club said that the winner of the award for her work with City of Armagh Rugby Club, Josephine Rogers Strain, had worked tirelessly when she was involved with the East Roscommon club, adding that the award was no surprise to those who had worked closely with Josephine during her time with the Barry’s.

“Unfortunately for us, life and love brought a relocation up north, but Josephine was never going to sit still, and obviously the drive and energy she showed when involved with St Barry's is still very much in evidence,” said the club in a post on social media.

Ulster Rugby remarked that Josephine was a “truly deserving recipient” of her Local Club Hero award, noting that her “dedication, selflessness and passion” embodied everything that grassroots rugby stood for.

“Josephine goes above and beyond for City of Armagh Rugby Club, giving countless hours to coaching and supporting players across the club, particularly the girls’ U-16s and U-12s teams.

"As both a mum and a coach, she empowers every player, builds confidence on and off the pitch, and ensures that enjoyment of rugby is just as important as results. Her commitment is nothing short of remarkable.

“Beyond coaching, she has taken on the role of club secretary, organised fundraisers including the Pretty in Pink event, and is always at the heart of club life.

"From welcoming new players and parents, to making sure everyone feels involved, Josephine helps create a happy, inclusive club environment. And if there’s a tuck shop or tea stall, you can be sure her home baking won’t be far away!

“Josephine never asks for recognition, she simply wants a happy club and happy players. Her generosity of time, energy and care makes her not just a Club Hero, but a wonderful human being who has left a lasting impact on everyone around her,” concluded the tribute to Josephine.
