Two Roscommon Herald journalists have been shortlisted in the 2026 Justice Media Awards.

Two Roscommon Herald journalists have been shortlisted in the 2026 Justice Media Awards, highlighting the paper’s strong contribution to coverage of legal and justice issues.

Herald Deputy Editor Richard Canny is nominated in the Print/Online Journalism (Local) category for 'The Probation Service: managing the delicate balance between rehabilitation and risk'. He scooped the award in this category last year.

His colleague Claire McGovern is shortlisted in the same category for 'Elphin father faces fifth Christmas without dad Robert who remains a ‘hostage’'.

The awards, organised by the Law Society of Ireland, recognise journalism that enhances public understanding of the justice system, legal processes and related issues.

Elsewhere, The Roscommon People has been shortlisted in the Broadcast Journalism (TV/Video) category for its piece 'Academy House and IPAS: Transparency, Rights, and Community Impact', produced by Emmett Corcoran, Michael Finan and Emma Healy.

Shannonside Northern Sound FM also features prominently on the shortlist in the Broadcast Journalism (Radio/Local) category.

Dan Dooner is nominated for 'What happens when you’re detected driving under the influence of drink or drugs', while The Joe Finnegan Show earned two nominations - Joe Finnegan and Kevin McDermott for 'Listeners’ legal queries answered', and Joe Finnegan, Kevin McDermott and Eoghan Murphy for 'Bail review recommendations explained and examined'.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Law Society of Ireland in Dublin on Thursday, June 11th.
