Roscommon LGFA confirms resignation of executive members

Secretary Norman Lenihan and Vice-Chairperson Pat Heneghan will step down from their roles on the Roscommon LGFA executive at the end of March.

Roscommon LGFA has confirmed the resignation of four members of its executive.

In a statement on social media, it was clarified that the resignations of Chairperson Declan Walsh, Vice-Chairperson Pat Heneghan, Secretary Norman Lenihan, and Children’s Officer Michelle Hughes had been accepted by the executive.

However, all four officers will continue in their roles until March 29th.

“This decision comes after careful consideration and mutual agreement,” said the statement.

"Our Chairperson, Declan Walsh, has served the organisation with dedication and vision, bringing about significant developments and growth during his tenure.

He has been instrumental in leading key initiatives and fostering a culture of innovation and integrity.

“Similarly, our Vice-Chairperson Pat Heneghan and our Secretary Norman Lenihan have been pivotal in streamlining operations and enhancing our strategic partnerships.

“Their contributions have been invaluable in achieving our organisational goals and maintaining our commitment to excellence.

“Our Children’s Officer, Michelle Hughes Walsh, who also served as PRO in previous years, has been a passionate advocate for the welfare of children within our county.

“Their tireless efforts have made a lasting impact on many lives, and their absence will be felt deeply,” continued the statement.

Roscommon LGFA added that it was “grateful for the years of service and dedication these individuals have provided, "noting that “their leadership has set a strong foundation for the future, and we are committed to continuing the work they have started.”

The statement concluded by saying that the executive would be meeting shortly to discuss the process of appointing interim leaders and ensuring a smooth transition.

“We extend our gratitude to these individuals for their hard work and commitment, and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours,” concluded the statement.

The news is another setback for ladies’ football in the county, following on from the treatment of former intermediate ladies’ football manager, Ollie Lennon in October 2023.

Roscommon LGFA subsequently apologised to Lennon and his backroom team for any "hurt or distress" caused by the way their tenure was abruptly ended after the players called for an apology to be issued to the management team.
