Roscommon man wins Race Across Wales

Tulsk man Ed Payne (middle) comes first in the Race Across Wales challenge

A Roscommon elite athlete has won another endurance race.

Yesterday Tulsk man, Ed Payne, was first past the post in the grueling Race Across Wales, completing the 220 km course in an incredible 39 hours and 30 minutes. The race began on Friday at noon.

Speaking after the race, Ed was full of praise for the course, calling it amazing.

“The views were amazing,” he said, adding that the weather became very challenging.

“I have done some tough things but that was out there,” he said. “But it’s a great event, brilliant volunteers, good tea, what else can you ask for?”

Remarkably only in August, Ed came second in the 220 mile race across the width of Scotland.
