Roscommon shop to close following ‘strategic review’

The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is to close its charity shop in Roscommon Town.
The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is to close its charity shop in Roscommon Town.
The IWA said that that the closure was “a difficult but responsible decision” given the financial situation of its retail stores.
The charity shop located on the Circular Road in the county town will close by March 31st with the loss of two jobs. In advance of its closure, the shop has already stopped taking donations from the public.
A spokesperson for the IWA said it was sorry to announce that the Roscommon shop is one of nine such charity shops that will be closing.
“The decision is as a result of a strategic review of our charity shops. Despite the hard work and commitment of our retail employees and volunteers, it became clear to us that some shops have struggled to raise funds. Our shop in Roscommon is one of the nine shops within this category and hence is due for closure.
“Increased running costs, fewer volunteer numbers and falling revenues are among a number of reasons contributing to some shops becoming financially unviable,” the spokesperson outlined to the Herald.
The spokesperson said this was a difficult decision for IWA’s senior management team and Board but “one we believe is responsible given the financial situation of the retail stores and the mission of our organisation.”
