Roscommon students win county prize in social entrepreneur awards

Students from Castlerea Community School were named as the county-winning project in the Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2025 at the recent final held in Leinster House.

Castlerea Community School’s Transition Year project, The Giving Tree 365, has been named as County Roscommon’s winning project in the Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2025.

The Giving Tree 365 is a student-led social enterprise focused on community support, sustainability and social inclusion. The project showcases the creativity and commitment of students who identified local needs and developed practical solutions with real impact.

The project was part of Social Enterprise Exchange’s (SEE) wider programme, which engaged over 500 Transition Year students and teachers across Laois, Offaly, Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon.

While many schools participated in social enterprise learning, The Giving Tree 365 stood out as an outstanding example of youth-led social innovation, the organisers said.

Social Enterprise Exchange congratulates Castlerea Community School on this achievement and looks forward to seeing the project continue to grow.

Gabrielle McFadden, project manager SEE, thanked the students and teachers for engaging with the competition.

She also thanked Roscommon County Council for its support throughout the year and for sponsoring the €250 prize.
