A shave, wax or dye fundraiser for a new children’s hospice in the West of Ireland will take place at Creaton’s Bar, Ballaghaderreen on Saturday, March 7th at 7 p.m..
The event will raise much needed funds to help towards the cost of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s state-of-the-art dedicated children’s hospice in Castlebar, the first of its kind along the Western seaboard.
The Sunflower Children’s Hospice will benefit many families caring for children with life limiting illnesses who require paediatric palliative care and respite services.
One family who will hugely welcome the building of The Sunflower Children’s Hospice is the Cox family from Lisacul.
Their 11-year-old son Daire has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. His severe and complex needs require 24 hour a day, seven days a week constant care.
Along with a big raffle and entertainment on the night, a monster auction will take place at the shave, wax or dye fundraiser.
One of the items for auction is a steel frame for a 32 x20 ft shed donated by O’Grady Welding and Sheds.
Many other items include bales of various descriptions - turf, wood, fuel, feed - professional services and possibly even a signed county jersey or two.

Joe Egan, one of the participants, said one of his grandnephews avails of services provided by the excellent organisation.
“Palliative and respite care must encompass all aspects of the activities of daily living. It must be inclusive of family and all siblings,” he explained.
“I would like to thank Lorraine and Sheila (Creaton’s Bar proprietors) for the huge amount of work they are putting into this fundraiser. Please share any links to this event,” he said.
Joe is set to get rid of his hair, which has seven years of growth, and his trademark beard, which he has had in some form for most of his adult life.
The organisers are appealing to the local community and all local businesses to get involved in this fundraising effort for a very worthy cause.
All donations big or small will be greatly appreciated.
