Shocking images of Athlone Garda station and vehicles extensively damaged
The front door window of the Garda station shattered with a strewn beer keg nearby.
Gardaí investigating an incident where extensive criminal damage was caused to Athlone Garda Station and several Garda vehicles earlier this evening (Sunday) arrested a man, aged in his late 30s, at the scene.
The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act (1984) at a Garda station in the division.
Shocking images of the extensive vandalism surfaced online this evening.
The front door window of the Garda station on Barrack Street was shattered with a beer keg strewn nearby.
The images also show the window of the reception area shattered while windows on a patrol car and a garda van were smashed.
