The 53rd Roscommon Easter Parade takes place on Easter Monday, April 21st at 2.30 p.m. with the theme ‘Sporting Roscommon’.
The parade will commence at Abbeytown and finish at the Square.
The committee opted to go with a sporting theme to focus the spotlight on the sporting facilities and the sporting achievements in Roscommon.

“In terms of sporting achievements, we are up there with the best for the size and population of our county,” said a spokesperson for the committee.
In particular the committee references the achievements of Olivia Costello (golf), the O’Rourke sisters (boxing), CBS (football), Mercy College (football and camogie), Roscommon Community College (football and badminton), the Roscommon darts team, the senior men’s football and hurling teams, Roscommon ladies football and camogie, Creggs rugby and the great club network within Roscommon.
“We hope to see some of these stars in the parade and also some stars of the future,” added the spokesperson.

To get the day off to a great start Lady Betty will kick off the music on the Square at 1.15 p.m. and after the parade the very popular Roscommon Men’s Choir will also perform on the Square.
Amusements will be provided before and after the parade on the Square.
The parade will be led by an Army Colour Party and there will be four marching bands, street entertainers, and inflatables along with commercial and voluntary floats.

“We welcome all commercial and voluntary floats and urge them to enter early. Entries can be accepted up to Easter Sunday. Again, this year we will have a sensory area on Church Street from the church to the old courthouse,” said the committee.
There will be prize money on offer on the day as follows: 1st, €500 and 2nd, €250.

“The parade is a huge family day and we hope that this year will be as good if not better. The committee would like to thank Roscommon County Council, Creative Ireland for the grants allocated to us and to all for the donations we receive from the local businesses. Without these contributions the parade would not be able to take place. Also thanks to the gardaí, and Civil Defence for their cooperation and assistance.
“We look forward to another brilliant parade and huge support from the community near and far,” said the committee.
