Leitrim County Council has launched an online survey for people who feel they may be eligible to acquire an affordable home in the Carrick-on-Shannon area.

The local authority is actively pursuing the development of affordable housing over the coming years, under the government’s ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities’ plan and any future housing plan.

As part of the survey the council is calling on people who may consider that they qualify as a ‘First Time Buyer’, or ‘Fresh Start Applicant, to complete a short survey on the Council’s website, which should take no more than five minutes to complete.

It is intended to gather information on income levels, family size, housing type and timeframe of need.

The council stress this is not an application process for affordable housing. “This is a provisional survey only, for the purpose of determining potential levels of interest in the provision of affordable housing in Carrick-on-Shannon. The council will use the information gathered under this survey to inform targeted development of a future Affordable Housing Scheme, which will be advertised through Leitrim County Council media channels as they are developed,” said the local authority.

The council further notes there are currently no properties available for purchase under the scheme.

Survey forms are available on https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage and should be completed on or before Friday, 23rd January 2026 at 4 p.m..
