Suspended sentence for drug offences
The case was heard at Roscommon Circuit Court.
A man who pleaded guilty to the possession of almost €60,000 worth of drugs for sale or supply has avoided a jail sentence following an appearance at Roscommon Circuit Court.
Lorcan McPhilips (22), with an address in Rahara, appeared before Judge Kenneth Connolly and was given a four-year prison sentence, which was fully suspended for a period of seven years.
The charges against Mr McPhilips included one for possession of cannabis and cocaine for sale or supply to the total value of €59,250.90, as well as various other charges for drug possession, and possession with intent to sell or supply.
He also faced charges for possession of cocaine and benzocaine in his blue Volkswagen Golf at Rathbrenan, Roscommon, on February 20th, 2025, the same date and location relating to all other charges on the indictment.
The court heard that Mr McPhilips had complied with all his bail conditions, as well as completing 20 weeks of treatment at Cuan Mhuire Addiction Treatment Services.
In sentencing, Judge Connolly took into account such mitigating factors as an early guilty plea and a lack of previous convictions when imposing the four year prison sentence, which he suspended for seven years subject to strict conditions.
Mr McPhilips has also been given a community service order of 240 hours, which he is to complete within one year.
He is to submit himself to the supervision of the probation service for 18 months, and has been ordered to engage in psychotherapy and addiction services.
Judge Connolly also disqualified him from driving for four years.
