Talk on ‘big houses’ of County Roscommon
Castlerea House will feature in an illustrated talk on the ‘big houses’ in Roscommon.
A talk on the ‘big houses’ of County Roscommon will be hosted by Carrick-on-Shannon & District Historical Society on Wednesday, May 21st at 8 p.m..
The talk will be given by historian/author Paul Connolly and will also include the smaller but well-known Woodbrook House just a few kilometres from Carrick-on-Shannon.
Originally from Mount Talbot and author of “The Landed Estates of County Roscommon”, which he self-published in 2018 (second edition 2020), Paul has a very popular Facebook page of the same name, which has almost 20,000 followers from all over the world. He regularly reaches over one million views on his posts.
He will examine big houses throughout the county, some extant and some that are lost. Examined in detail include Castlerea, Kilronan, Strokestown Park, Rockingham, Clonalis and Mount Talbot.
The talk will be held on Wednesday, May 21st at 8 p.m. in St George’s Heritage & Visitor Centre (Church Lane off Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon N41 KP62). Admission is €5, free to Historical Society members. For further information call 086 067 5283.
