Many tributes were paid to Ms Burke who was described as “a kind, supportive and stylish lady”.
Condolences were expressed by many of her former students.
“She contributed so much to nursing in Ireland & abroad in her teaching of future nurses for the decades ahead as we left her to forge our own careers. I have such fun memories of our classes with Amelda all those decades ago,” said one sympathiser.
“A beautiful, dignified lady who dedicated her life to the nursing profession,” said another while another former student said she “had a warm influence on me during my time as a trainee and staff nurse in Sir Patrick Duns Hospital Dublin.”
Ms Burke will be sadly missed by her brother Jay (Jim) (Ballyleague), sister Anna Begley (Galway) sister-in-law Marie, nieces, nephews, extended family, former nursing colleagues and friends. She is predeceased by her parents and by her brother and sister.
