Two candidates confirmed to contest Fine Gael co-option convention

Two candidates have been officially confirmed to contest the Fine Gael co-option convention to decide who will fill the late Cllr John Naughten’s council seat.
Confirmation of Valerie Duffy and Ger Grehan as the two candidates were confirmed after the deadline for nominations expired at 9 p.m. this evening, Wednesday.
Valerie Duffy is very active in community and youth work and is also a leading figure on Moore Community Council.
It’s understood she was approached by the Naughten family to consider putting her name forward for consideration for the late councillor's seat.
Taughmaconnell native Ger Grehan is an active figure in farming circles and is current chairperson of the Roscommon Ploughing Association. He ran unsuccessfully as a Fine Gael candidate in the 2019 local elections.
The co-option convention will be held in the Athlone Springs Hotel on Thursday evening, February 20th at 7.30 p.m..
