New River Suck slipways and a cycle loop in the Ballintubber area were launched last Sunday.
Ballintubber Development Association, in a social media message, said the project was one of the late Cllr Anthony Waldron’s visions and passions.
“Saddened that he is not here to witness it but know he would be extremely thrilled to see so many on the water and enjoying the day of cycling and kayaking,” it said.
Gail Murray, a member of the Development Association, in an online message, said “days like this makes all the voluntary meetings and hours of paperwork worthwhile”.
She said she was super proud of the committee members and thanked Roscommon County Council for their massive support. She also thanked everyone for coming on board for the launch.
In a poignant message, Ms Murray said: “Cllr Anthony Waldron. this one was for you ..an emotional but proud day for all involved.”
