Roscommon fans in New York are getting ready to make their way to Gaelic Park for this afternoon’s big game (throw-in 8 p.m. Irish time).

Speaking to the Roscommon Herald this morning in New York, well known Rossie supporter and former chairman of Club Rossie Pat Compton said fans were “excited, hopeful and confident”.

Pat said that the atmosphere among the all the Roscommon fans was wonderful with a great gathering of fans from Roscommon, Roscommon natives resident in New York and throughout the US. “As Rossies we will enjoy ourselves regardless of where we are,” he said.

He stressed the importance of the GAA in New York and while acknowledging the cost of bringing a team to New York, he said that in the wider context the GAA needed to ensure that the game was vibrant and successful in cities like New York. “It’s very important for the Irish here to be able to go to Gaelic Park and see championship football.”
