A rising Welsh indie rock band with deep connections to County Roscommon are set to perform in Cork and Dublin this weekend, bringing a strong local angle to their growing international profile.
The Rogues, an emerging band from Newport in South Wales, feature guitarist Andrew Flannelly, whose family ties to Castlerea have ensured a lasting connection with the county. Andrew’s father, Tomas, was raised in Castlerea, while his grandfather, the late JJ Flannelly, served as a Garda sergeant in the town for many years and was a highly regarded member of the Castlerea Brass and Reed Band. The late JJ Flannelly was well known throughout County Roscommon and beyond.

Continuing a proud musical tradition, Andrew appears to be following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Despite growing up in Wales, he spent his summers in Castlerea and maintains a strong affinity with Roscommon. A keen supporter of the county’s GAA teams, he was delighted at Roscommon’s Connacht Final success.
The Rogues have been building a reputation as one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts in Wales. Their debut EP, 1963 (Live at Rockfield Studios), was recorded with renowned producer Nick Brine, known for his work with major acts including Oasis and The Stone Roses.
The band have already enjoyed notable success, with their lead single reaching No. 3 in the Official UK Charts, underlining their growing popularity.
As part of their first UK and Ireland tour, The Rogues will play Crane Lane in Cork tonight, Saturday, May 16th, before heading to Whelan’s in Dublin on Sunday, May 17th.
Music fans eager to hear more can check out the band’s latest EP, Last Summer, which showcases their distinctive indie sound and further cements their rising status.
With their strong Roscommon heritage and rapidly expanding fan base, The Rogues’ Irish performances this weekend are sure to attract interest from both local supporters and music enthusiasts alike.
