Woman (80s) dies in County Roscommon road collision
Gardai are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision in County Roscommon.
An elderly woman has died following a road traffic collision which occurred in County Roscommon earlier this evening, Tuesday.
The collision involved a SUV and a truck at Scramogue shortly after 5 p.m..
A passenger in the SUV, a female in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was removed to the morgue where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
The driver of the SUV, a female in her 70s, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4.45 p.m. and 5.15 p.m. are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
