A 42-year-old woman was fined at a recent sitting of Roscommon District Court for assault.
Michele Gomez, with an address at Flat 3, Behind Apache Pizza, Church Street, Roscommon Town, pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of section 2 assault, which was acceptable to the court and gardaí. She had initially been charged with assault causing harm to another woman. The offence took place on July 14th, 2024 at The Square, Roscommon Town.
Sergeant Mark Mahon said the assault happened while the victim, who was hit in the head and face, was walking home. The court heard that there had been some past animosity between the accused and the victim.
Ms Gomez’s solicitor Sinead Neilan said the assault was completely out of character and alcohol was involved.
The judge said that while he accepted the guilty plea to the reduced charge, the fine must reflect the original prosecution and handed down a €500 fine.
