Work getting underway in Strokestown on replacement of 1.3km stretch of water mains

Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann, says the Strokestown works are essential.

A1.3km stretch of old water mains is to be replaced in Strokestown with work getting underway on the project this week.

The old water mains will be replaced with new modern pipes along Bawn Street, Church Street, and the Tulsk Road (N5). The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. These works are scheduled to be completed by spring next year.

According Uisce Éireann once these works are completed, customers in the area will enjoy an “improved water supply with less disruption.”

Commenting on the project, Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann said: “This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive. We would like to thank customers in Strokestown in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these works.”

Traffic management will be in place in Strokestown and the company says that motorists and residents “can be assured that local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. The works may require some short-term water supply interruptions, but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.”

Farrans Construction will deliver these works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
