Road tragedy claims life of popular Castlerea man

There is great sadness in the Castlerea area following the death of local man Tommy Bruen in a road tragedy last week.

Large crowds turned out on Friday and Saturday for the removal and funeral of Mr Bruen, late of Main Street and Ballindrimley, Castlerea who lost his life in a road tragedy at Knockroe, Castlerea on Monday, January 27th.

Funeral Mass took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea on Saturday followed by burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s cemetery.

Many tributes have poured in following Mr Bruen's untimely passing.

He ran a bicycle shop and filling station in Castlerea for many years, and was also a very talented Gaelic footballer in his day.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary, parents, Nora and Tommy Snr, brothers Eamon, Paddy and John and his sisters Barbara, Mae and Annie.

He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, son Dara; daughters Gráinne (Costello) and Caolinn; adored grandchildren Odhran, Máie, Cian, Kyle and Brandon; great-grandson Roman; daughter-in-law, Marie; son-in-law Sean; Caolinn’s partner Noel; sisters-in-law, Rita and Patricia; brother-in-law Mick Cormican; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and a wide circle of friends.
