Reigning Roscommon senior ladies’ football champions, Clann na nGael, have confirmed that Mark Cunningham has stepped down as manager after one year.
He will be replaced by club stalwarts, Denis Gavin and Joe Fallon.
Gavin, a former Clann player, won a Connacht Senior Football Championship medal with Roscommon in 2001, and was a selector alongside Cunningham last season.
Fallon, who was also a selector in 2024, has been part of various ladies’ management teams during Clann’s upturn in fortunes in recent years — as manager in 2018 and 2019 against a Kilbride team at the height of their powers, and as selector with Finbar Egan in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Clann enjoyed a stunning county title triumph last year as they produced a mesmerising second-half display to overcome St. Brigid’s in the county final.
Trailing by 2-5 to 1-1 at half time, the Johnstown-based outfit turned the game on its head to prevail by 5-11 to 2-7.
Having taken over the reigns from current Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football manager Finbar Egan, outgoing manager Mark Cunningham was previously in charge for Kinawley’s successful six-in-a-row bid in Fermanagh in 2023.
In a statement, Clann na nGael thanked Cunningham “for his brilliant work in bringing the championship back to Johnstown in 2024” and wished him the “best of luck for the future”.
