Draws made for Roscommon SFC quarter-finals and semi-finals

Boyle and Pádraig Pearses met in the 2023 county senior football semi-final, which Boyle won by a point.

The quarter-final draw for the Hodson Bay Hotel Group Senior Football Championship has thrown up a couple of mouth-watering ties after the draw was made in Kiltoom on Wednesday evening.

Reigning county senior football champions Pádraig Pearses had barely time to digest their eight-point preliminary quarter-final victory against Oran when they were pitted against one of the form teams of the championship, Boyle, in the last eight.

It promises to be a terrific clash with Boyle manager Eamonn O’Hara well-aware of Pearses’ credentials having seen them as Mohill manager in last year’s Connacht Club Senior Football Championship semi-final in Ballinamore.

When the sides met in the 2023 county semi-final, Boyle prevailed by a point.

The other big quarter-final clash will see St. Brigid’s face last year’s beaten finalists, Roscommon Gaels.

Mark Dowd’s side have been solid, if unspectacular, in the group stages, and will come up against a Brigid’s side still smarting from their recent group game loss against Michael Glaveys.

The draw also threw up a meeting of last year’s beaten semi-finalists as Michael Glaveys get set to face St. Faithleach’s.

Glaveys have been one of the stories of the championship so far, making little of a poor O’Rourke Cup campaign to win their three group games, including taking St. Brigid’s scalp in Round Three.

A poor first-half performance against Clann na nGael cost St. Faithleach’s dearly last time out but their earlier victories against Pádraig Pearses and St. Dominic’s will have Ian Bradley’s side still believing they can make the last four once more.

Clann na nGael and Elphin have also been paired together after Nigel Dineen’s men came through their preliminary quarter-final against North Roscommon last weekend.

Clann have been motoring along nicely under Pat Fallon, despite losing narrowly to Pearses in Round Two, and will have the favourites’ tag going into that game.

The semi-final draw also took place, with the winners of Boyle and Pádraig Pearses facing the winners of the Michael Glaveys/St. Faithleach’s match.

The other semi-final will see St. Brigid’s or Roscommon Gaels meet Clann na nGael or Elphin.

Quarter-final games will be played at neutral venues on the weekend of September 20th/21st.
