Former Roscommon hurler aiming to plot Pearses downfall

A former Roscommon hurler will be aiming to help Coolera/Strandhill upset the odds when the Sligo side face Pádraig Pearses in the Connacht SFC final this Sunday.
Hugh Rooney is part of the Sligo side’s squad that will be aiming to secure the club’s first Connacht SFC title.
Rooney hurled with Roscommon and was part of the side that reached the Nickey Rackard Cup final in 2022.
He also claimed Division 3A winners’ medals in 2019 and in 2022 and helped Roscommon to the Connacht senior hurling league two years ago.
Rooney came off the bench in Coolera/Strandhill’s Connacht semi final win over Ballina Stephenites.
His wife Ruth Goodwin lined out in midfield as Coolera/Strandhill defeated Pádraig Pearses’ ladies footballers in the Connacht Junior Championship quarter final.
The Sligo outfit proceeded to claim provincial honours before travelling over to the Netherlands to beat French outfit Paris/Bordeaux Gaels in an All Ireland quarter final.
She will be lining out in an All Ireland semi final this Saturday as Coolera/Strandhill host Mungret St. Paul’s.
