With just one outstanding game to be played in the Roscommon Senior Ladies’ Football Championship, there’s still one semi-final berth up for grabs after the final round of group games on Sunday morning.

Last year’s intermediate champions, Éire Óg, could have confirmed fourth place in the table but they were beaten by St. Dominic’s, 2-12 to 0-12, in James Timothy Park, Loughglynn.

Aoife Gavin’s impressive championship form continued as she netted two first-half goals to hand the visitors a 2-4 to 0-5 advantage at the interval.

Éire Óg did manage to pare the margin back to two points with five minutes remaining, but the Dominic’s bench made an impact to get their side over the line.

Despite the loss, Éire Óg can still make the semi-finals if they defeat Kilbride in their final game.

If Éire Óg don’t make it, Shannon Gaels will be the chief beneficiaries, and they kept their hopes alive with a 4-5 to 2-7 victory against Kilbride.

Two goals from Sarah Boyd alongside majors for Michaela Dunne and Chloe Dunne proved to be the difference.

Clann na nGael set up a semi-final meeting against St. Dominic’s with a 4-8 to 0-7 victory against Boyle at Abbey Park.

The scoreline was very harsh on a Boyle side who produced their most competitive performance of the season but a combination of poor shooting and a brilliant goalkeeping display from Clann netminder, Éadaoin Lennon — sister of Roscommon senior footballer, Ciarán — thwarted the defending champions.

Róise Lennon’s early goal gave Clann some leeway as they built up a 1-4 to 0-5 advantage at half time.

But despite a fine performance from Micheala Ward in the middle of the field for Boyle, some good approach play wasn’t rewarded on the scoreboard.

With three-quarters of the game played, the result was still in the balance but a quickfire double from Kara Earle and a fourth goal from Hope Glynn handed Clann a flattering 13-point win.

In the semi-finals in two weeks’ time, Clann will face Dominic’s, while St. Brigid’s will face either Éire Óg or Shannon Gaels.
