Roscommon club remembers lady who was renowned for her ‘friendly, kind and welcoming face’

The Chris Neenan, wife of Michael Glaveys GAA Club President, Frank.
A County Roscommon GAA Club has paid a moving tribute to a popular lady — renowned for her ‘friendly, kind and welcoming face’ — who passed away in the first few days of 2025.
The late Chris Neenan was the wife of Michael Glaveys GAA Club President Frank Neenan. They had been married for 71 years.
Chris — from Betal, Granlahan, Ballinlough — passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at University Hospital Galway on January 3rd.
“Chris was widely loved throughout the parish and beyond as a kind, friendly and pleasant lady. She was a constant companion to her husband Frank at many club functions and activities down the years,” said the club.
“Club members were delighted to attend Frank and Chris’s 70th wedding anniversary celebrations last summer where everyone enjoyed a wonderful evening.
“Chris was always a welcoming presence at their home in Betal, Granlahan. Thanks to her innate kindness and thoughtfulness, she made every visitor feel at home.
“She was involved in many local organisations throughout her life. Like her husband, children and grandchildren, she gave her time and energy to her community. Her friendly, kind and welcoming face will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”
The late Chris Neenan is survived by her heartbroken husband Frank; her children Joe and Mairead (Tully); daughter-in-law Bernedette; son-in-law Tom; grandchildren Michelle, Kevin, Tara, Danielle, and Conor; great grandchildren JJ, Ruby and Teagan; the extended Neenan and Sullivan families, and her wide circle of friends and neighbours.
May she Rest In Peace.
