Roscommon woman to make history at senior ladies' football final

Sandra Shanagher will referee this Saturday's senior ladies' football championship final between St. Brigid's and Clann na nGael in Ballyleague.
A County Roscommon woman is set to enter the history books at this Saturday's county senior ladies' football championship final between St. Brigid's and Clann na nGael in Ballyleague.
Former Kilbride and Roscommon ladies' footballer, Sandra Shanagher, will become the first female to take charge of a senior ladies' football championship final in the county.
Sandra will be supported by her team of umpires from Kilbride, Anthony Scanlon, James O’Connor, Michael Dowling, and Jonathan Farrell.
Kilbride GAA Club has wished Sandra all the best, describing the feat as a "tremendous achievement" and adding that the club was "incredibly proud of her."
A referee since 2009, Sandra is no stranger to rewriting the history books. She has taken charge of two junior and two intermediate finals, including the 2017 intermediate decider when she led an all-female team of officials for the first time.
Saturday's final between St. Brigid's and Clann na nGael, which throws in at 4 p.m., is eagerly anticipated. Sandra took charge of the league final between the two clubs earlier in the season, which Brigid's won.
St. Brigid's are searching for their first senior championship title since 2014, while Clann were last champions in 2022.
