The quarter-final seedings alongside the draws for the preliminary quarter-finals and relegation play-offs in the local football championships have been confirmed by Roscommon GAA this evening (Sunday).
The senior football championship quarter-finals draw will see Oran as the fourth seeded team alongside defending champions St. Brigid’s, Clann na nGael and Roscommon Gaels.
Michael Glaveys and Pádraig Pearses are already in the last eight, and they will be joined by the winners of the preliminary quarter-finals between Castlerea St. Kevin’s and Boyle, and St. Faithleach’s and North Roscommon.
Fuerty have been chosen as the fourth seeded team in the intermediate football championship draw, joining group winners Elphin, Éire Óg and Strokestown.
Kilbride have received an automatic berth into the quarter-finals following their dramatic victory against Pádraig Pearses this afternoon, where they will join Shannon Gaels and Kilmore. The final quarter-final spot will go to the winner of the preliminary quarter-final between Creggs and St. Brigid’s.
In the Junior A championship, Western Gaels will be the fourth seeded team alongside St. Aidan’s, Ballinameen and Boyle.
Roscommon Gaels have received a bye into the quarter-finals where they will be joined by Clann na nGael and Kilglass Gaels. The remaining quarter-finalist will be the winner of the preliminary quarter-final between St. Barry’s and Strokestown.
In the senior football championship relegation play-offs, St. Dominic’s will meet Tulsk, with the loser set to face Western Gaels to see who drops down to the 2025 intermediate football championship.
In the intermediate football championship relegation play-offs, St. Michael’s will face Pádraig Pearses, with the loser meeting St. Croan’s to see who is relegated to next year’s Junior A football championship.
Tulsk have been relegated to the Junior B championship as St. Joseph’s and St. Ronan’s, who finished bottom of their Junior A groups, couldn’t be relegated as first teams.
In this afternoon’s action in the intermediate football championship, Elphin confirmed top spot in Group A with a convincing 1-14 to 1-3 victory against Shannon Gaels at Davonna Park, Ballinameen.
Matthew Bourke goaled in the opening minutes, but that’s as good as it got for Shannon Gaels.
Leading by 0-7 to 1-1 at the break, Elphin took over completely in the second half, and Damien Cregg’s 32nd minute goal all but ended the contest. Fintan Cregg was his side’s top scorer with 0-7.
Ryan Dowling proved to be Kilbride’s hero as he kicked the last four points to rescue victory from the jaws of defeat and book his team a place in the last eight at the expense of Pádraig Pearses in Knockcroghery.
Dowling’s first-half goal saw Kilbride lead by 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval but Pearses, led by veteran Seánie Fahey, took control to move three points clear.
But Dowling rose to the challenge, landing the last four scores to procure a dramatic 1-10 to 0-12 victory for his side.
