Roscommon footballer Brian Stack feels the split season is challenging for inter county players.

The St. Brigid’s man played an integral role in helping his club reach the All Ireland final in January with Stack now on the go for roughly 18 months straight.

Speaking to Off The Ball Breakfast recently, the Roscommon captain admits the schedule has been tough on his body.

“It’s not really a split season for us. It is kind of all year round. Obviously, we got a good run with the club and we went straight from that into inter county and more or less inter county straight into club before that. We have been on the road, a few of us have been for 18 months and you do pick up these niggles.

“You never really feel like you are going through a cycle of a pre season and then into matches. You never really feel that fit. You are sharp alright. You are match sharp but you never really have a chance to get fit because you are constantly playing games and you don’t get a pre season in with the club or county.

“It is quite tough in that regard as you find yourself picking up niggles. I have always struggled with groin and hip injuries, and I have to regulate my training a bit so that is a bit tough alright when you are trying to get to the highest level you can.”
