Roscommon GAA have announced two new additions to the county’s senior hurling coaching ticket for 2025.

The strong links between Roscommon and Clare continue with two Banner men, Patsy Fahy and Matty Shannon have been brought in to help Roscommon improve upon a 2024 that saw Kevin Sammon’s men fall short in their pursuit of a spot in the Nickey Rackard Cup final.

Patsy Fahy has previously been involved in training Gort, Turloughmore, Doora Barefield, Corofin and Kilmaley as well as the Clare senior camoige team.

Patsy Fahy told Roscommon GAA: “I am absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to join up with Roscommon and I am looking forward to bringing a new voice and ideas to the hurlers involved and hopefully we can progress this group that’s being assembled to the next level. I know I will give it my very best and I’m very excited to be part of what looks like a very competent management team.”

In 2022 Matty Shannon coached an Éire Óg, Ennis side, that includes newly crowned Hurler of the Year Shane O’Donnell, to a first county final appearance since 1990, losing by a point to Ballyea.

The following year he coached his home club Corofin to win the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship as they reached the Munster Club Hurling Final.

Shannon added: “I am looking forward to the challenge ahead which is about developing and improving the players.”
