LATE LIZ DWYER: Everyone in Boyle Golf Club was shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden death of Liz Dwyer. It still seems hard to comprehend that such a fate could befall an energetic, positive and health-conscious person such as Liz. Along with her husband Jimmy, Liz was a true stalwart of Boyle Golf Club for several decades. She served on the club’s committees in several capacities, including Captain, President and Treasurer. She was a very talented golfer, having at one point held the lowest handicap in the ladies’ section for several years. She was renowned for the keenly competitive but sporting spirit with which she played the game. It was these qualities that made her a key member of the Boyle team that won a Connacht Mixed Foursomes title in 1998 — one of the club’s greatest days. Liz was a proud member of the Carty family and was constantly supportive of her extended family on and off the golf course. She helped out in the club in a myriad of different ways apart from her committee work, including ensuring the clubhouse looked its best on the days of major competitions. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Carty family, and most especially to her husband Jimmy Dwyer.
