One of County Roscommon’s most talented golfers played a leading role in Great Britain and Ireland’s historic victory when they landed the Junior Vagliano Trophy at West Lancashire over the weekend.

Olivia Costello contributed 1 ½ points to her team’s narrow 8-7 victory against the Rest of Europe, winning her singles match 4 and 3, and halving her foursomes match.

The team were managed by ex-Irish international Deirdre Mahon, who is originally from Roscommon Town.

It was the first time for Great Britain to win the famous trophy.

The Junior Vagliano Trophy is a girls’ amateur international match played between Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent of Europe, and was first staged in 2011. The match is for junior girls aged 16 and under.
