Roscommon golfers secure international call ups

Roscommon golfers Olivia Costello and Thomas Higgins will represent their country on the international stage.
Costello will compete in the Home Internationals from August 6th to 8th. She is part of the Irish Girls’ team that will travel to Conwy in Wales.
The teams of nine boys and seven girls will play a full round-robin series against England, Scotland and Wales. Each match will comprise of seven foursomes matches and 14 singles matches.
The girls’ team also boasts plenty of experience with five of last year’s participants involved. Anna Abom (Edmondstown), Costello, Kate Dillon (Oughterard), Hannah Lee-McNamara (Royal Portrush) and Ellen O’Shaughnessy (Co Louth) all featured in 2023. Holly Hamilton (Belvoir Park) and Róisín Scanlon (Woburn) have also been included this time around.
Costello is in fine form having secured a 3&2 victory over Kate Lanigan in the Last 16 of the AIG Irish Women’s Close Championship in Roscommon before defeating Kate Dillon 5&4 at the quarter final stage today.
Thomas Higgins has been selected for the R&A Men’s Home Internationals. He is the first Roscommon Golf Club member to represent Ireland since Ken Carney.
The event will be taking place at Murcar Links in Scotland with the action running from August 7th-9th.
Liam Nolan (Galway) returns from his appearance at The Open to add his considerable experience to the Men’s lineup. Colm Campbell (Warrenpoint) joins him from last year’s team while Seán Keeling (Roganstown) was part of the victorious Boys’ side in 2023.
Paul Coughlan (Castleknock) was the automatic selection from the Bridgestone Order of Merit, and he is joined by Hugh Foley (Royal Dublin), Ryan Griffin (Ballybofey & Stranorlar), Josh Hill (Galgorm Castle), Luke O'Neill (Connemara) and Higgins.
