County Roscommon golfer, Thomas Higgins, sank what turned out to be the winning putt as Ireland claimed their first European Amateur Team Championship title since 2008 in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon.
With the teams deadlocked at 3-3 on the 20th hole, Higgins produced one of the putts of his life from distance to put pressure on his Estonian opponent, who subsequently missed from five feet to ensure Ireland were victorious.
Higgins had played a major role on the team that secured an outstanding 4-3 win against reigning champions Italy at Estonian Golf and Country Club on Friday.
Previous Irish teams have included Shane Lowry, who was one of the stars of the Irish side that won in Turin 18 years ago, while Rory McIlroy was also part of the winning side the previous year.
