Double Olympian and Castlerea boxer, Aoife O’Rourke, says she’s “taking it one fight at a time” as he looks to turn bronze into silver on Saturday next.

O’Rourke guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool with a 4-1 win over fellow Olympian Sunniva Hofsted in her quarter-final on Wednesday.

“It’s just about taking it one fight at a time. I’m just grateful to have that medal, so we’ll push on in the next one and see what we can do,” she told World Boxing.

“To be here and to be selected to represent Ireland is an honour.

“The gameplan (against Hofstend) was to keep the pressure and intensity, and try to be clinical and smart with my punches.

“You can go through the plan all you want on the pads and you feel great, but implementing it in the ring is another story. But, hopefully, when I reflect on it, there will be plenty of positives to come out of the fight,” she said.

She will take on China's Chengyu Yang in her semi-final in Saturday's afternoon session at the M&S Bank Arena.
