Roscommon’s Joanne Cregg plays Aussie football with the Fremantle club.

Roscommon’s Joanne Cregg will be among the Irish contingent who will feature in TG4’s Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) coverage this season.

The first round of the AFLW league begins this weekend. However, the Michael Glavey’s player picked up an injury in pre-season but is hopeful to be in contention for a starting place soon for her club, Fremantle.

Before being selected for Fremantle as a first year player, the Irish recruit initially moved to Perth in early 2022 to further her career, and is a paediatric doctor working at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Cregg is among a record thirty-four Irish players who will take to the field this season with eighteen Irish counties represented. Mayo lead the pack with six players while Tipperary comes a close second with five.

The AFLW competition begins this weekend with eighteen teams battling it out to see who will reach the Grand Final on November 30th.

TG4 will broadcast two matches deferred each weekend as well as weekly highlights as part of GAA 2024 on Monday evenings at 8 p.m..
