Carrick man selected to start for Ireland in U-20 Six Nations clash

Diarmaid O’Connell, who came through the ranks at Carrick RFC, has been named to start on the Irish U-20 team who will face France this Saturday evening.

O’Connell will wear the number eight jersey as Ireland travel to the Stade Aime Giral in Perpignan this Saturday (kick off 8 p.m.) to face the reigning champions.

He previously lined out against South Africa last November for the Ireland U-20 team but O’Connell will face into his biggest game to date as he makes his U-20 Six Nations debut.

O’Connell is one of two Connacht players in the squad with winger Daniel Ryan entrusted with the number 11 jersey.

The game will be broadcast live on the RTÉ News Channel.
