Creggs make winning start 

The Creggs team that beat Ballinrobe RFC in the first round of the Cawley Cup on Saturday last.

Creggs’ first team started the year with a win away to Ballinrobe RFC in the Cawley Cup.

The home side were the first to score, driving in under the Creggs posts after only 12 minutes. But Creggs reacted quickly and Eoghan Cahill touched down after gaining possession. The try was converted by Mark Brandon to leave the sides deadlocked, 7-7, at half time.

Creggs were more in control in the second half, playing with the wind. Captain Brian Diffley scored a try, which was converted by Brian Cleary. David Brandon scored in the corner after 67 minutes, a five-pointer that was excellently converted by Cleary.

Leading 21-7, Creggs were comfortable but they allowed Ballinrobe back into the game with a converted try. The last move of the game saw Eoghan Coyle get over the line before he dusted himself down to convert the try himself.

The final scoreline read 28-14 in Creggs’ favour.

U-18 GIRLS

Members of the Creggs U-18 girls’ team represented Connacht at the interpro series against Ulster at Corinthians RFC.

It was a dominant win for Connacht with the Creggs girls on the scoreboard, adding 27 points to the 42 -12 win. Siofra Hession (2), captain Sarah Purcell, Jemima Adams Verling and Ciara Corrigan crossed the whitewash, while Siofra Hession added a conversion.

They play Leinster next Saturday in their next game at the same venue. Support for the girls would be appreciated.

TRAINING

Senior men’s training takes place on Monday and Wednesday at 8.30 p.m..

Adult women and U-18 girls’ training takes place on Monday at 8 p.m.. U-14 and U-16 girls’ training takes place on Monday evening between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m..

U-13 boys’ training takes place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 12 noon.

This will be the first year of competitive 15-a-side rugby for these boys. To play at this age grade, you must have been born in 2011. If anyone would be interested in joining, please contact Kenneth Loughrey on 085 7664010. No previous rugby experience is required.

LOTTO
