A Roscommon player has received €5,000 in funding to pursue a masters degree.

Heather Payne received the funding as part of the Sky WNT Fund, established to champion members of the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team in their academic and career ambitions off the pitch.

The Creagh woman will receive €5,000 to pursue a master’s degree in sports nutrition.

Now in its fourth year, Sky Ireland has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and development of the Women’s National Team players, increasing this year’s fund from €25,000 to €30,000.

For the first time, the fund will be split between four winners, with two winners to receive €10,000 each and two winners to receive €5,000 each.

Courtney Brosnan, Emily Murphy and Lucy Quinn also received funding from the Sky WNT fund.

The four recipients were announced and honoured in a special event hosted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain, in Mansion House.
