Roscommon team remain on course to retain national title

The St. Joseph's FC U-16 boys' team that defeated Newbridge Town, 3-1, to reach the quarter-finals of this year's SFAI Cup.

A County Roscommon-based team remain on course to retain their national title after booking their place in the quarter-finals of this year’s competition.

The St. Joseph’s U-15 boys’ soccer team made the national headlines last May after winning the SFAI National Cup. Now, following a 3-1 win against Newbridge Town in the last 32 of the competition, this season's U-16 side are back in the quarter-finals.

Goals from Will Geraghty, Leon Nolan and John Price helped the club, based in Cushla, Monksland, into the last 16 where the draw will be made on Wednesday.

The club's U-15 team have also qualified for the quarter-finals of their SFAI Cup competition. 

Last year’s successful team are one of the 2023 monthly winners in the Roscommon Herald/SuperValu Sportstar of the Year awards who will be in attendance at the gala banquet on Friday, March 8th, in the Abbey Hotel.
