St. John’s Athletic miss chance to put pressure on Moore United
 
 The Boyle Celtic U-14 girls' squad that defeated Killala FC 3-1 on penalties in their Connacht Trophy game on Bank Holiday Monday.
With Roscommon and District League Premier Division leaders Moore United not in action, second-placed St. John’s Athletic missed out on the chance to close the gap to a single point when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Boyle Celtic. The visitors had a player sent off after 40 minutes, but St. John’s could not break down a resolute Boyle defence.
Ballymoe FC played Shiven Rovers at Ballymoe. Despite leading on three separate occasions, Ballymoe conceded three goals in the last 20 minutes to leave the Newbridge-based side 5-4 winners.
James Connaughton gave Ballymoe a half-time lead. Gerry Connaughton, Damien Goggins and James Connaughton added three more in the second half. However, Man of the Match Stephen Murray scored four goals for the winners before Keith Murphy added another to secure three valuable points for Shiven Rovers.
The Castlerea Celtic v Skyvalley Rovers game was postponed as a mark of respect to the Costello family following the death of their mother Maura.
Ballinahown are top of the PK Trailers Division One League following a thrilling 3-2 win away to Ballinasloe Town. The sides were level at half time before Cameron O’Leary gave the home side a 1-0 lead after 61 minutes.
The visitors responded with a great left-footed strike by Mark Egan after good play by centre-forward Terry Byrne.
Anatolii Vovk restored Ballinasloe Town’s lead after 80 minutes before Terry Byrne latched onto a rebound, after a shot from Michael Monaghan, to equalise.
A draw seemed the most likely outcome, but up stepped Michael Monaghan to grab the winner for Ballinahown. He received the ball at the edge of the box, knocked it past the defender, and subsequently rounded the ‘keeper to slot the ball into the net.
Cloonfad United recorded a comfortable 5-1 win over Moylough at Cloonfad. Darragh Flynn and Kevin Byrne gave the home side a 2-0 half-time lead. Aidan Sloyan added a third after 56 minutes.
Two minutes later, Dermot Hughes converted a penalty for Moylough. However, Shane O’Malley and Kevin Byrne added two more for the winners before the end of the game.
St. John’s Athletic’s second side are just a point behind the leaders after beating CP Ajax 5-2 at Lecarrow. Conor Murphy opened the scoring for the winners after just four minutes. Darren Flynn replied for the Castleplunkett-based side after 20 minutes.
Ryan Dowling restored the Lecarrow-based side’s advantage before Jamie Tiernan added two more at the end of the first half and five minutes into the second half.
Daniel Connolly pulled a second back for CP Ajax, but Charlie O’Beirne made sure of the win for the home side.
The top of the Killeen’s Sports Grounds sponsored Division Two is really congested, with Ballyboro and Glen Celtic sharing the lead, and Castlerea Celtic’s second side just two points further back.
Ballyboro recorded a good 6-1 win against Ballinlough-based side Lough Harps at Lanesboro. David Rooney gave the winners a half-time lead. After the break, Jordan Donlon scored two, before Aidan Dooney and David Rooney completed the scoring.
Glen Celtic travelled to Boyle Celtic for their fifth game of the season. They found the breakthrough when Michael Heneghan crossed the ball and PJ Shanks finished to the net.
The visitors doubled their lead after Conor Chapman put a ball in the box, which Heneghan finished. After 30 minutes, Conor Chapman took a free kick, which caught the defence off guard, to make it 3-0 for the Glenamaddy-based side.
Boyle Celtic came back out hungry for the second half. Both teams had chances, but the home side got themselves back into the game after Darragh Hensey converted a penalty kick. The game was very close until Michael Giblin broke down the line to finish a great solo goal to make it 4-1 and secure all three points for Glen Celtic.
Cam Celtic/Dysart defeated Cloonfad United B 2-1. Andy Higgins scored both goals for the winners. Jack Sullivan replied for Cloonfad United.
Castlerea Celtic’s second side played a really good Carrick-on-Shannon side and came with a 3-0 win in difficult conditions. Frank Hester scored after 25 minutes after good work from captain Sean Murray.
The home side put Castlerea under a lot of pressure in the second half. But, in the 56th minute, Aaron Grant crossed the ball into the box. Ciarán Kilkenny sold a dummy, allowing goal machine Gerry Ward grab his 11th of season.
In fairness to Carrick, they kept trying but they couldn’t break down a solid back four. In the 89th minute, James Egan wrapped up the points when he rounded the ‘keeper from a Ryan Larkin free kick, Ballinagare beat Moore United’s second side 6-2 at Ballinagare. Tom Ward scored three, Aaron Dowd scored two, and Charlie Stokes added one for the winners. Shane Dunning and C. Kenny replied for Moore.
In the Women’s Division, leaders Ballaghaderreen beat Kilkerrin United 4-1 at Kilkerrin. The home side took the lead after six minutes by way of an own goal but Grace McDermott scored two for Ballagh in the seventh and 30th minutes.
Ballagh pushed on in second half, adding two more goals through Alannah McGreal and Rebecca Finan.
Shiven Rovers were beaten 5-2 at home by Carrick Town. Rebecca Rutland put Shiven one up on nine minutes, but Siobhan Conway equalised after 30 minutes before adding four more in the second half. Ciara Crehan scored a second for the Newbridge-based side.
Dunmore Town defeated Boyle Celtic 8-1 at Dunmore. The visitors took an early lead through Andrea Hogan but, unfortunately, that was as good as it got for them.
Aoife Smyth scored four, Erika Diskin scored two and Lily Concannon and Siobhan O’Grady added one each for the winners.
