Tempest to open at Roscommon Arts Centre

Tempest, an exhibition by Steve Wickham, opens at Roscommon Arts Centre on Friday, July 3rd.

Tempest, an exhibition by Steve Wickham, opens at Roscommon Arts Centre on Friday, July 3rd.

This exhibition comprises of a mixture of paintings, drawings and prints and is inspired by Steve Wickham’s time working on Deirdre Kinahan’s play ‘Tempestsa’.

During 2023/24, Steve was commissioned to write the score and perform in the play. The first run of the play was in Dublin and he was ensconced in a hotel for 50 nights in Temple Bar. The hotel room became a painter’s studio during the run and the exhibition was born of his engagement with the play, which centred on a story of love during the Spanish Civil War. This work was a collaboration with musician Joe Chester who wrote a suite of guitar music inspired by the same novel.

During the run of Tempest, Steve will host two events at the Arts Centre. On Thursday, July 23rd at 8 p.m. Steve  will be joined by award winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan for an evening of music and recitals from their collaborations together. On Saturday, August 1st Steve will be joined by award winning songwriter, composer and musician Joe Chester for an evening of music. Tickets for both events are €18 and are available from www.roscommonartscentre.ie
