Three cows had to be put down after a series of crashes during the same incident in Co Donegal last night.

Three vehicles including an ambulance and two trucks collided with a number of straying cows on the main Lifford Road around 10pm.

The ambulance was transporting a patient from Letterkenny University Hospital to Dublin for treatment when the incident occurred.

A full investigation has been launched into how the cows came to be on the road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene.

Three cows badly injured in the incident had to be put down.

However, gardaí say no injuries to drivers or passengers involved in the crash have been reported.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed “Gardaí responded to the scene of a road traffic collision involving two lorries and an ambulance that had struck livestock in Lifford Co. Donegal on Monday 15th September, 2025 at approximately 10:00pm.

“Three cattle had to be put down as a result of this incident.

“No injuries were reported to the occupants of the vehicles at this time.”
